Political Process Day III (7/3)

Today we will be talking about the Technology Student Association.  Anyone interested in the TSA can click here to see the web page.

Second, we are going to watch a short video about HABIT #2 - Begin With The End In Mind (7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Covey)

Finally, you may use any additional time in class to work on articles or submissions to the Contributor Online Version (School Paper).  You may also work on items for the Primary Elections later today.

Political Races II (7/2)

The first thing you must do today is create a link on your WEEBLY website (Home Page) to your Marquise Video (10-15 seconds) that is stored in your GDrive.  You do this by opening your GDrive and selecting the video you uploaded.  Click SHARE and change the permissions (middle of page) from Private to Link Only, then COPY the link address in the box above.  Open your WEEBLY website and click EDIT.  Add a picture or text about the Marquise Project and highlight the text.  Click the LINK symbol in the editor at the top-center of the screen.   PASTE the video link address into the box and make sure to put a check mark in the box above to OPEN IN NEW WINDOW.  Hit SAVE and then hit the PUBLISH Button in the top right of the screen.  A blue box should appear with the active web address of your site.  CLICK the BLUE ADDRESS and go to your live site.  Scan down to the TEXT you just created and Click it to View your video.  Anyone who sees your site should now be able to watch your video and you did not have to buy Weebly PRO.  Cool, huh?

NEXT:  If you would like to create a 30 second video to support your candidate, or bash your opponent in the upcoming Student Government Primary Elections, here are the guidelines:

Political Video Project (30-Seconds max. length)

Find Pictures or Video Clips To Import
Select Music (MP3) or create it in GarageBand
Import Video Clips and Music into IMovie
Add Pictures
Create Titles and Information Slides
Add Effects and Transitions

Primary Elections are on Thursday, October 25th during the Block Class at the end of the day!!

The Political Races (Primary) (7/1)

This week you will be working on Political Propaganda. Your party must create Buttons,Flyers,Speeches,Bumper Stickers, and other materials for your run for office. You will be graded together. Please use Apple IWork Pages to create your items. Specific Item sizes and rubrics will be listed below.  

Campaign Button 

Must be 3" x 3" or larger.  No bigger than a standard sheet of paper (8-1/2" x 11")  It must have at least two colors and you must be able to read any text used clearly.

 
Campaign Bumper Sticker

Must be 4" x 9" or larger.  No bigger than a standard sheet of paper (8-1/2" x 11")  It must have at least two colors and you must be able to read any text used clearly. 

Party Platform

Must be created as a one-page flyer.  This document can be created in MS Word or IWork Pages.  It must be spell-checked and use proper grammar and sentence structure.  You should include the candidate's names, classes they are in, and any description of why they are running.  Also include what they would change if they are elected, and how they stand on any issues that are important to the voters.

Candidate Speech

This can be created in a GDrive Document and Presentation.  It must be spell-checked and use proper grammar and sentence structure.  You should include the candidate's names, classes they are in, and any description of why they are running.  Also include what they would change if they are elected, and how they stand on any issues that are important to the voters.

ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE UPLOADED TO GDRIVE OR EMAILED TO INSTRUCTOR FOR CREDIT!

PSA Partner Review Form (6/4)

Today you need to finish your Public Service Announcement. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE SAMPLE VIDEO (SEPTA ROCKS) THAT I MADE.  The steps to complete it are in the posts below.(See 6/1, 6/2, 6/3) You must also complete the evaluation below for your partner to receive full credit. Make sure you UPLOAD and SHARE the final video with me. Make sure that you have attached a Marquise Project from each of you. Make sure you send me the BIBLIOGRAPHY email as outlined below. PSA Turn-In Procedures (6/3)

To turn in your Public Service Announcement you must follow the directions in the previous post to complete the project (Click Here To See The Post).  You must then add (by importing into IMovie) the Marquise Project for both of the students working on your project.  These Marquise projects must be added to the end of your PSA IMovie before exporting the final movie.  SHARE and EXPORT the final draft of your IMovie PSA to your desktop.  Open your GDrive online and by clicking the RED box next to CREATE, UPLOAD your IMovie PSA and then SHARE it with me.

Make sure you also send me the email Bibliography (See yesterday's post) to get credit for the assignment.  Google adds a second to most videos, so make sure that you allow for that before sending it to me.

Public Service Announcements (IMovie) (6/1)

Public Service Announcement (PSA) Rubric

"There are many different definitions for a public service announcement (PSA) or public service ad, but the simplified version of PSAs are messages in the public interest disseminated by the media without charge, with the objective of raising awareness, changing public attitudes and behaviour towards a social issue."     - Wikipedia Definition 

This week you will be completing a Public Service Announcement in IMovie.

Grading is as follows:

     The Public Service Announcement must use a minimum of 20 pictures or video clips

     PSA must be no less than 30 seconds in length and no more than 1:00 minute in length

     PSA must have smooth transitions between pictures

     PSA must use at least one piece of music.  If more, smooth transitions between sound bites

     PSA must have at least 6 facts about your topic
    
     PSA must be published (SHARE) as a movie file and viewable by Media Players

Following is the grading outline:
          30 points for neatness (smooth transitions)
          40 points for completeness  (All items present)
          10 points for within time limits
          20 points for partner review

Habit #1 Reflection and Marquise Project (5/3)

We will start today by creating a journal entry after discussing (yesterday) Habit #1 from the 7-Habits of Highly Effective People (Covey).  Please pay attention to the information and answer the following questions in your Journal (Weebly.com).  If you missed our discussion, please download and view the link (Habit #1 Video) to the left.

How will you try to "carry the weather with you" from now on.  What can you do to encourage others to see this as an important first step in being more mature? 

When you are finished with the Journal Entry for today, please continue to work on your Marquise Project.  Your Marquise will be used in the next project as part of your Public Service Announcement.  See details below for requirements.

IMovie Marquise Project (5/2)

Please create a Movie Marquis in IMovie.  It should be 10 to 15 seconds long and use audio, pictures/video, titles and effects.  You must create your music for this project with GarageBand.  You may not use commercially available music.  When you have edited the movie and created it, please use the SHARE function and EXPORT video to the desktop.  Upload that file to your Google Drive and share it with me for credit for the project.

Grading Rubric:

1. Within Time Limit = 1 point
2. Clear Pictures = 1 point
3. Titles = 1 point
4. Appropriate Music = 1 point
5. Effects / Transitions = 1 point
6. GDrive Shared = 1 point

GarageBand in all of it's glory!! (5/1)

Today we will hear the rest of your presentations.  There are only a handful of students that need to go.  Afterwards, please follow directions while you open GarageBand.  I want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to create some custom music for the IMovie project tomorrow.

Steps to help you:
1.  Open Apple's GarageBand Application.
2.  Watch the "Building A Song" (Click For Link)
3.  Use the HELP section with the class on the Main Screen
4.  Use the headphones to listen to GarageBand while you create a personal track.
5.  Try to create a track that is 10-15 seconds long
6.  Use the instruments listed in the Loop Browser.
7.  Look in the SHARE drop down list to EXPORT your work to the desktop.
8.  Import the track you created into IMOVIE for use in the Marquise Project
9.  You might want to Upload it to your GDrive so you do not lose it.

I hope you enjoy the next couple weeks in class.  We will be getting pretty creative while we learn about some important topics.

Autobiobraphy Presentations (4/2,3,4)

Everyone:

You have done an outstanding job finding the courage to present to your peers.  While the presentations themselves are a little rough, I applaud your effort and I look forward to even better presentations for the next project.  Next week you must be prepared to work with GarageBand and IMovie.  We will be creating our own music, original Marquise's to identify your personal production companies, and finally you and a partner will create a 30-60 minute Public Service Announcement on a topic of your choosing.  It should prove to be a fun week.  Enjoy the three-day weekend and I will see you Tuesday!!

7-Habits Introduction / GarageBand (4/1)

Hello All:

I cannot believe how fast we are moving through this material.  I feel like you are mastering everything with a speed I have not seen before.  You are exceding all of my expectations in both scope and substance.  Great Job So Far!!

Start with a quick Journal Post (Weebly.com) about the 12x12x12 Impressions located at the bottom of the Posts here on the website.  Hint:  Scan to the bottom of the page and look for where the background changes to flat grey.  Journal about what you think this passage means to you?  How have you noticed, in hindsight, this idea in action?  Good Luck!

7 Habits For Highly Effective Teens

Be Proactive

Being proactive is the key to unlocking the other habits. Help your teen take control and responsibility for her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don't blame others for their own actions or feelings.

Begin With the End in Mind

If teens aren't clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.

Put First Things First

This habit helps teens prioritize and manage their time so that they focus on and complete the most important things in their lives. Putting first things first also means learning to overcome fears and being strong during difficult times. It's living life according to what matters most.

Think Win-Win

Teens can learn to foster the belief that it is possible to create an atmosphere of win-win in every relationship. This habit encourages the idea that in any given discussion or situation both parties can arrive at a mutually beneficial solution. Your teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishments of others instead of being threatened by them.

Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood

Because most people don't listen very well, one of the great frustrations in life is that many don't feel understood. This habit will ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is: active listening.

Synergize

Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn't have to be "your way" or "my way" but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teens to value differences and better appreciate others.

Sharpen the Saw

Teens should never get too busy living to take time to renew themselves. When a teen "sharpens the saw" she is keeping her personal self sharp so that she can better deal with life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four key dimensions of life – body, brain, heart, and soul.

GARAGEBAND INTRODUCTION:

 Open Apple's GarageBand Application.  Watch the "Building A Song" (Click For Link) video from the HELP section with the class on the Main Screen in the classroom.  Once we have watched the video, use the headphones to listen to GarageBand while you create a personal track.  Try to create a track that is 10-15 seconds and includes any of the instruments listed in the Loop Browser.  You will be using the final cut of this track you are creating as the background for the Marquise Project in IMovie on Friday.  Make sure it sounds like you want it too.  When you are done look under the SHARE section to Export Song To Disk and save it.  You might want to Upload it to your GDrive so you do not lose it.
