MS Excel Basic (Google Spreadsheets) Training 2015

This is your Introduction to MS Excel (Google Sheets).  Please pay close attention during the class presentation (Click Here to Download Presentation at Home).  You will be creating a number of spreadsheets over the next few days.  It is important that you learn to navigate around the spreadsheet as easily as you do in MS Word (Google Documents).  You will find that most of the RIBBON items are similar and that you can find out how to do things without my help by using the HELP Button.

We will be using MS Excel (Google Spreadsheets) to perform Basic Math, create Employee Timecards, Payroll Worksheets, a Family Monthly Budget, and much more!

Use this link for more information and helpful practice templates:  MS EXCEL PAGE

Are You Really LOST?  Click Here to access GOOGLE SHEETS TRAINING VIDEO

Finally,  you will be using templates that are built-in to the MS Excel program.  I will add different requirements as we progress.  Good Luck!!

Microsoft Research TouchDevelop Application Builder

Today, in addition to completing your Yearbook Project, you will be required to sign up for an account (USE YOUR CAA GMAIL ADDRESS ONLY) on the Microsoft TouchDevelop Website.

Use the link below to create your student account:

TouchDevelop.Com (CS CLASS I Sign Up Link)

Once you have created your account, please verify the account in your Gmail and proceed to the HUB!  This is where you will begin to learn how to read and write CODE!

Step 1 - Set Your Experience Level:

Click on the box marked Experience Level (right side of HUB screen) and choose BEGINNER

Step 2 - Begin Work:

Click on the "First Steps With Turtle" tutorial and follow all instructions to get the turtle to draw a box.  You will need to add lines of code, making sure to read directions, and use a "button-style" interface to load your commands on each line.  You can use the + sign to add lines of code.

Step 3 - Work on other tutorials on your own.  The first 10 students at Crossroads@Meade to complete all 10 tutorials will receive an invitation to a PIZZA PARTY to be held after they have successfully completed the work.

Bear in mind, you are only going to be graded on signing up for this program and completing the First Steps With Turtle Tutorial.  No other work is required.  If you like this program, send me an email and tell me what you liked about it.  While you progress through the program, you will be able to write those lines of code and move away from the visual-based "blockley" programming, into a more syntax (words) based code.  This is an important transformation!  Eventually you can create games and applications, and you can also move on to more intricate forms of code!

Good Luck!

Yearbook Creation Project 2015 (400 points)

ACADEMIC/LEARNING OBJECTIVE
Students will use their ability to find, manipulate, edit, and post items to help create a school-wide yearbook.  Students will use creativity and other lessons from digital photography, editing and writing to construct a personal entry for the class yearbook.  Students will have work published both online and in print.

STUDENTS MUST START BY READING ALL DIRECTIONS ON CLASS WEBSITE!

Students will go online to access the TEMPLATE document from the class website.  Students must successfully download and open the Template in Mac Pages.  Students will identify computers in the room that do not have the software installed to create the project.  Students will then access and select photographs and other online content to include in their project.  Students will create a ⅓ page layout about themselves, for entry into the school yearbook project.

Today you will be creating your own 1/3 page for the Crossroads Yearbook.  Your page section will be copied and listed alphabetically in our yearbook.  The yearbooks will be printed in color and an electronic color copy will be emailed to everyone and linked to my website for download.  You can then print and bind additional copies if you like.

Here is a video tutorial I recorded to help you: (Click Link and Watch It)

Here are some tutorials for you to learn how to use MacWorks Pages:

When you think you have mastered the software a bit, please click the link below to download the template.  You will be using any one of the three outlined spaces to create your page.  Do not resize the background blocks, but you can change the background color and edge trim.  Ultimately, the yearbook staff will be editing, proofreading, and pasting your section into the final draft of the yearbook.

YEARBOOK TEMPLATE (MAC PAGES TEMPLATE FILE)

Anyone who does not submit this project will have the picture from their SCHOOL DISTRICT ID used in the yearbook.  Enjoy creating this project!

 Good Luck,

Integrity (13 Characteristics)

13 Characteristics of People Who Have Integrity

1. They Value Other People's Time: They value their own time so they also value the time of other people. They know you have plenty of other places you need to be and won’t hold you up. If you spend time with them, it is likely they will thank you for that as well.

2. They Give Credit Where It Is Due: They do not take credit for things they did not do. They will always credit those who deserve it. If you help this person with a project he or she will likely mention your name so you can take credit for your work.

3. They Are Authentic: They are their truest forms. You won’t catch them in a lie or being fake.

4. They Are Always Honest: They are honest people that feel no need to lie as it is important for them to get to where they need to get in life honestly.

5. They Never Take Advantage Of Others: They are not the kind of people who will take advantage of someone else. They love to build people up and help them get where they need to be. Taking too much from someone else will never be an issue with someone who has a lot of integrity.

6. The Do Not Argue Over Disagreements: They will talk through things in a civil manner or not talk at all. You cannot and will not force this person into arguing over something completely ridiculous. I find this to be a very respectable trait.

7. They Give Most People The Benefit Of The Doubt: They try to see the good in everyone. I think this is because they feel like maybe there are more people in this world that also have integrity. That being said, if you take advantage of them too much they will get rid of you.

8. They Know When Something Is Bothering Someone: They have a great intuition that lets them know when something is going on. If someone is down in the dumps they will notice. Chances are they will actually do what they can to cheer you up.

9. They Believe In Others: They accept your word as truth until it is dis-proven. That being said, they do not take lying well. And once you lie to them, it is unlikely that they will ever take your word again.

10. They Apologize First: If they have done something wrong they will come to you and apologize. This is just how they are. They own up to their mistake and try to make things right.

11. They Are Humble: They do not quite know their own worth. While they are very important and do so much good they don’t quite see it. You should remind them of it.

12. They Do Good When They Can: They are always helping other people. They love to know that they have improved someone’s life. It gives their lives meaning.

13. They Are Always Kind To Those Who Need It: Giving kindness can go a long way. When someone looks like they need a little pick me up these people deliver. They can brighten up almost anyone’s day.

If you are someone who has true integrity, thank you for being who you are and thank you for all that you do. You really do actually make a difference in society, please keep up the good work. If you feel no one else is proud of you, know that I am.
